About Assist Carolina

Finding help shouldn’t feel like a second full-time job. Assist Carolina was created to make it easier for people in North and South Carolina to see housing, food, health, legal, and benefit resources in one place—without endless searching and guesswork.

A Nonprofit Guide to Trusted Resources

Assist Carolina was created during the longest government shutdown in our Nation’s history. Complaints were heard repeatedly that necessary services were difficult to find. The largest complaint was that government websites were extremely difficult to navigate and took too long when it mattered the most. Additionally, many of the rural and underserved areas websites were entirely inaccurate and antiquated.

The solution? Why not create a centralized “hub” with direct links where services could be found. In addition, a place where new service organizations could provide information for those in need. Local contacts with up-to-date email addresses and phone numbers that were readily available.

The goal was to remove the “red tape” from the process and get the resources out when they were desperately needed. Created by a high school freshman who thought one day….”what can I do to help?”

Our Mission

Our mission is to make it easier for people in North and South Carolina to find the help they need—quickly, clearly, and without confusion.
Assist Carolina connects individuals, families, and community workers to trusted information about housing, food, health, legal aid, benefits, and job support. We don’t provide services directly or decide who qualifies; instead, we organize and explain resources so people can see their options and reach the right organizations faster.

Our Vision

Our vision is a Carolina where no one feels lost when seeking help. We envision communities where every person.

We envision communities where every person—regardless of income, background, or situation—can easily understand what support is available, where it comes from, and how to access it. By bringing reliable information into one clear, accessible hub, we aim to reduce barriers, support local organizations, and help neighbors find a more stable, hopeful path forward.

Why We Started Assist Carolina

Many people in the Carolinas face the same problem: There are resources out there—but they’re hard to find and even harder to understand. Different agencies have different websites, forms, and terms. Some programs are local, some are statewide, and some are federal. When someone is stressed or overwhelmed, they may not have the time or energy to sort through it all.
You don’t need an account, a referral, or a specific status to use the site. It’s open to anyone who wants to understand what help may be available in their community.
